We still get calls asking if the TLC* classes are taking place... ...Social distancing has changed the format. However, we hope to continue to work with people who are under-insured on a case-by-case basis. Follow the process for regular new patients, once your referring provider has determined that your risk of leaving the house does not exceed the benefit of attending physical therapy. The TLC Class was started in Dec 2018 for those affected by the Camp Fire. A tiny grant from NVCF funded the printing/mailing of fliers. *TLC means tender, loving care...something that is much needed for each of us!
What is the TLC class?
There are lecture-format presentations ready; however, in the experience of the PT, it is often more informative to those present if the class content flows according to YOU, your questions, and the PT's observations. The effects of trauma and stress can easily be "read" by the physical therapist in the ways that you move and the way your muscles and joints feel if palpated. It is imperative that we teach you how to learn to help your body heal!
WHY? During those first few weeks in Nov/Dec, Kristi was volunteering at the Sears Center and offered quick chair massages. Thanks to her PT exam skills, she could feel just how badly each person's body needed care, even during those short manual therapy interventions. The grant was given with the hope of helping more people using everything PT has to offer (any applicable movements similar to yoga / stretching, perhaps chair massages), and info about the healing process, tailored to your particular questions and situation.
We continue to offer these classes without ongoing funding. Our PT code of ethics asks us to provide Pro Bono care to the community, and we've long wished to give back to the region. The Camp Fire caused us to realize that NOW is the time. We're blessed well enough, thank God, and grateful for the opportunity; so we're happy to be able to help!
This is a wellness outreach and donations to the NVCF will be collected, or you can give to NVCF on your own -just mention WHY you gave!
